In the African village of Bomariba, a family held a symbolic burial for their son, Clinton Nyapara, who died in Donetsk, Ukraine, after joining the Russian armed forces last year.

After months of waiting in vain for his body to be returned to Kenya, the grieving family decided to plant a tree on the grave prepared for him as a symbol of remembrance and closure.

Nyapara is one of several young Kenyans believed to have died after being recruited to fight in the war between Russia and Ukraine, leaving many families still searching for answers about the fate of their loved ones.
